Human Architecture – The Book

After a few months of processing the data, we are happy to publish the results of the Human Architecture project.

Through this whole Human Architecture project we aimed to address the role of data in the public space, starting from the city of Venice and its relationship with the Biennale, as a global phenomenon.

The Book

The book contains:

• an analysis of the data collected network through the Human Architecture installation from the beginning to the end of the Biennale di Architettura 2018;
• a series of info-visualizations;
• four brand new articles written by Paolo Cesarini, Marco Trevisan, Fiorenza Lipparini and Simone Arcagni, exploring the role of data in the public space from different points of view, such as European institutions, urban regeneration, media theories and the collaboration between arts and science;
• the result of the workshop “From visualizing to performing data”: three different concepts to transform the new data source created by the installation into immersive experience and services in the city, created by a group of wonderful students, researchers, designers and artists from allover Italy and beyond;
• a complete opendata set, usable by anyone.

The Data

The data comes from major social networks (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) and the web (major news outlets mentioning the Biennale).

The objective of this data collection was to be able to have sufficient material to understand:

• how people attending the Biennale expressed themselves;
• how people in the city of Venice expressed themselves during and about the Biennale;
• what types of relationships (or absence of them) formed in the two groups and between them.
